Extreme HDR Brightness Injector
Transform normal (SDR) images into literal blinding flashbangs. This tool injects a modified ICC profile that forces compatible Apple monitors to fire up their peak brightness (up to 1600 nits).
How does this trick work?
1. The ICC Profile Magic
Modern displays can get much brighter than traditional monitors, but web browsers usually cap pure white to the standard SDR range. What this tool does is inject a special color profile (ICC) into your image. This profile contains a cicp tag using the PQ (Perceptual Quantizer - SMPTE ST 2084) transfer curve. Basically, it gives an absolute command to the monitor: "Treat this image like a 10,000-nit HDR video".
2. Hardware Requirements
To see the effect, the resulting image MUST be viewed in Safari or Chrome using an Apple device with a local dimming (Mini-LED) display:
- MacBook Pro (14" & 16") - 2021 models and newer (M1, M2, M3, M4 chips).
- Apple Pro Display XDR.
Note: If you open the image on an iPhone or standard monitor, it will look normal. iOS discards PQ curves on static PNG and JPEG files, preferring the Ultra HDR (Gain Map) format or video.
3. Controlling the Brightness
Since the HDR profile always forces the screen to treat white as the absolute maximum, the only way to regulate intensity is to darken the pixels before injecting the profile. The slider uses your graphics card (via Canvas 2D) to reduce the image luminance, achieving the exact level of glare you desire.
